This is the infamous 1st edition class.  You are more then welcome to try to make the grade for this exalted class.  On my world, it is on the decline.  Only 3 of the Great Bardic Colleges are still in existance.  In other words, you have to find a teacher.  A Bard.  If you looked at the Bard listing under Thief, you would already know what I'm about to say, if you didn't then listen up my friend.  In this world, they name those 2nd edition Bards, Heralds.  Yes, Heralds.  When someone is called a Bard... they are a 1st edition Bard.  End of Story.  I would prefer that only experienced players try for this class if it interests you.  Also you need a copy of the 1st edition PHB.  In other words, now thineself. :)  If you are going to try for this class you will have to find a teacher IG.  Don't worry there are a couple of them around.  So you will be starting out as a Fighter. :)  Let me know.
